America’s movement to mandate health insurance coverage will fundamentally change the way America does business and will extend the reach of the government into American’s lives in an unprecedented manner. Since the introduction of the Interstate Commerce Act in 1887 (Nash et. al., 2011, p 515) the act has been used by the federal government to justify laws and agencies from the FDA to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Due to America’s long history of maintaining individual rights and leaving the power of the government in the hands of the people the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act has caused concern amongst many Americans and has led to multiple court actions questioning the constitutionality of the act. Extending the reach of the American government into every American home by demanding the purchase of a product as a condition of citizenship will change the relationship of Americans with the American government.

Historical Background
For the first time in the history of America the American government has utilized the commerce clause (Article 1 Section 8 ) of the constitution to dictate to Americans that they will purchase a product. Section 1501 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (The Library of Congress) requires that each citizen of the United States is required to “maintain minimum essential coverage” and cites the Supreme Court ruling in United States v. South-Eastern Underwriters Association (322 U.S. 533(1944)) as the basis for insurance falling under the interstate commerce clause of the constitution. The most controversial part of this act is the Personal mandate that requires every American to purchase health insurance.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act moves America far from the Articles of the Confederation that kept the rule of government close to the people (Skousen, 1981). Even as the American Founders moved from the Articles of the Confederation to the American Constitution they intended government to be “of the people and by the people” as President Lincoln stated in the Gettysburg Address and demonstrated by Skousen in The 5000 Year Leap (Skousen, 1981). Since the founding of America government has kept growing and in 2010 the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act allows the federal government control over the purchasing habits of the American people in an unprecedented manner as discussed below.

Discussion and Evaluation
Supporters of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act claim that legislation is needed to keep insurance plans from engaging in unfair underwriting practices (Carman, 2011). Others feel that that many parts of the act, including the mandate and the dismissal of the Conscience Act (Lanham, 2011) oversteps the bounds of constitutional government reach into individual’s lives. While American healthcare needs to be reformed the reform must begin in the behaviors of the American people not in the halls of government.
The individual mandate has been brought to court by over 28 American states. As of November of 2011 the lower court decisions are evenly split and the question of the constitutionality of the mandate will ultimately be decided by the United States Supreme Court. The controversy over the individual mandate of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act extends well beyond the healthcare and demonstrates a growing shift in Americans view of their country.
Since 2007 there has been a rise of two groups with some similarities but also great differences. The fiscal conservative movement has become represented under the moniker of The Tea Party while the Occupy movement is representing the view that the top 1% of money holders owes support to the other 99% of Americans. This split in American’s view is not new but the legislation demonstrated in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act demonstrates the extent that the progressive (Nash et. al., 2011) movement has been able to influence American legislation.
Ultimately the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act on its own is not the able to change America but it is the first time that a law has been passed that tells Americans what they must purchase because they are American. If the mandate is allowed to stand it sets the precedent that America’s government can tell Americans what they must purchase and where they must purchase said product. This power in the hands of the government will ensure that business will have to spend more time assessing future government legislative moves than they have in the past.
While legislation and taxation have influenced American business for generations a government that can dictate the features and marketplace for a product is a game changer for American business. In the past business has used various methods to determine the products the American public will buy and the sales channels needed to sell the product. The individual mandate in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act dictates the design of acceptable product specifications and creates a government maintained sales channel for the distribution/sale of the product. This precedent will allow the government to become the product designer and seller of any product they desire if it is ruled constitutional.
This governmental reach into the purchasing habits of every American has a twofold effect. It creates a precedent for government to mandate purchases by its citizens and makes the government the ultimate decider of product design undermining free market principles of supply and demand. This precedent has the potential to change both the business and government climate in America by allowing the government to dictate to the American consumer what products they will purchase and from where they will purchase said product. It also has the potential to further the system in which those with more resources are forced to provide for those with fewer resources.
In Overtreated Shannon Brownlee lays out the current American system and how over utilization and lack of coordinated care contributes to the growing cost of American Healthcare and uninsured populations (Brownlee, 2007). The question facing the American people is who is responsible to manage utilization and to coordinate care. The insurance concept of managed care was designed to place the insurance company and a primary care physician in this position but full managed care limited the consumer’s choice of specialists and hospitals and led to a backlash by the consumer (Walker, 2009 & AHIP, 2007). From personal experience I have learned that when the consumer manages care effectively both the care and the willingness of insurance to cover costs are raised. However, the complexities of the healthcare system and the lack of expertise of the American consumer has led to a lack of personal accountability of the American consumer (Brownlee, 2007).
While the American healthcare system needs improved the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is not the solution to the problem. The act does not address the actual problems of the system (JAMA, 2011, AHIP, 2011, Overtreated, 2007) and allowing the government to mandate the purchasing actions of individuals is too high a cost for America to pay to resolve the issue.

As stated in Overtreated (Brownlee, 2007) the actual issues of American healthcare are not inherent to health insurance but disconnects within the healthcare system itself. There is a multiple level approach that needs to be taken to address the healthcare breakdown in America.
First and foremost American healthcare consumers need to become empowered to be their own advocates and healthcare coordinators. This can be accomplished by the consumer’s willingness to participate in their own healthcare and in healthcare providers being willing and trained to treat consumers as partners. In addition both patients and healthcare providers (doctors, hospitals, specialists, pharmaceutical providers, etc.) need to become partners with the insurance agencies and vice versa.
The patients and providers need to view the costs spent on healthcare in the same manner they would view the same services if they were paying cash for the service. This awareness of cost would help keep doctors from over utilizing tests and specialists when they know full well that the likelihood of the test providing for the care of the patient is minimal.
In addition doctors need to maintain a relationship with the patient and all specialists the patient is referred to in order to assure no over utilization of the system or overmedication of the patient. In the current system doctors do not have the time or incentive to practice this level of patient management. Due to the existing payment structure of Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance the doctor must move patients through the exam room every 15 minutes for a general visit and 30 minutes for a chronic condition visit. This economic need for quantity over quality motivates doctors and doctor administrative offices to encourage fast “diagnoses” or to move the patient off to a specialist.
Additionally the legal system needs reformed to discourage lawsuits against healthcare professionals where there is no intentional negligence or neglect on the part of the provider. Currently providers will over utilize services in an effort to assure they have left out no test in case someone sues them in the future. This is not based on the need of the patient but on the need of the doctor’s malpractice insurance company.
For the American healthcare system to not be a drain on American purse strings and for all Americans to be insured all parties involved in healthcare will have to change their habits and the consumer will have to take ultimate responsibility for their actions. More legislation will not resolve the American healthcare crisis but will continue to add to the reluctance of doctors to only recommend and utilize needed services. The American consumer has to be on the front line of the reform issue by changing their view of healthcare and utilization practices and demanding their healthcare providers coordinate care appropriately. It is also important for the consumer to seek out doctors that will participate in a doctor patient partnership.
While this sounds overwhelming and impossible to many people my husband and I are proof that a disabled person with a chronic condition can receive adequate care and help the insurance companies control costs when the patient and the patient’s family are willing to put a reasonable amount of time and effort into managing their own care and understanding their health insurance plan.

Fire them ALL

Fire them ALL.. Contract out as much as possible.. Hold an election for the deserters..

It don’t take rocket science to understand we don’t need a lot of fights about positions that are what use to be considered Public Servants or at least WANTING to make a difference.. People USE to want to help or be a part of making things better, be it by teaching the kids or forming policies for the people.. BUT most now are JOBS and WELL PAID JOBS.. Enough is tooooo much toooo much toooo much.. Stop it and FIRE THEM ALL.. Get back to Zero and start over..

Please please understand I have UTMOST respect for our teachers, law enforcement and fire fighters.. BUT they are all to serve and WANT to, not be there to make money in these times when all of us cutting WAY back.. It seems we have lost our way.. It is TIME to not have much of any of it Government, but probably private sector.. I guess that is what we might call contracted out..

Yep, you got it, most wages would probably be cut in half, but OH WELL, they are bringing it on themselves and with their actions I almost could care less anymore.. Sorry, but that is the insanity I see the last couple years… You got it, I am talking of TEACHERS UNIONS boycotting AZ.. that was insanity.. I am talking of all the less than acceptable demands being put on school districts while the teachers STILL can NOT teach, but have to walk a political tight rope as often the IN GROUP will get them fired.. YEP it is CORRUPT and the GOOD teachers are going to suffer anyway, so FIRE THEM ALL..

I know there is a lot that can be said and fought on this, but bottom line, enough is enough, just paint it ALL with a BROAD BRUSH and put a stop to it.. As for deserters.. Yep, it use to be a firing squad, but I am sure that is NOT acceptable, so fire them and elect new, or appoint a few that were runner ups against them.. Bottom line is.. NEVER let them feel comfortable returning back to the state they deserted.. AND yep, I know the Democrats have pulled it in several states in the years.. I know they deserted Texas a few years ago, and now I guess they have deserted Wisconsin the way it is said.. I am sure their have been others also, who knows.. GET RID OF THEM..

Life is NOT all as difficult as we make it or let it be.. Times are tough and we hear all this about change.. WELL, lets CHANGE it..  We had a saying in Vietnam.. “Don’t Tread On ME”. Well, we are all getting Tread on.. Get out the Broad Brush and lets start painting..

It is time for another great post from my Vietnam Vet friend.

Why oh WHY can’t some understand INTELLIGENCE often will NOT tolerate a Platform, Rules or Agenda?

There is NOT some little box many can be put in.. There is not some little corral many can be fenced in with.. There is not some GROUP that can be simplified so SOME can NAME while they try to put them down and intimidate..

Often prejudice, ignorance, and the unenlightened or the extremists seem to wish all people in some GROUPING so they can NAME them, but it doesn’t work that way. We have seen the last couple years of supposed enlightened brilliant full of extremists ideas that are suppose to help the poor downtrodden idiots of the USA.. DUH.. They have almost destroyed this very country with their enlightened insanity

NOW, the people have had enough.. Many are rising up with NO real “Platform” “Rules” or “Agenda”. Those people do NOT care what name others want to put on them, but instead they are going to VOTE to change what is going on.. YEP to get rid of many who are in Washington.

Sure some are voting for the same people.. some are voting with recommendations of others.. Some even are members of what the CONFUSED are calling the TEA PARTY… Many are supporting the TEA PARTY, but that does NOT mean they are the TEA PARTY. Much of the TEA PARTY is NOT simple as Name and claim it or Name and bash it. In many cases there in NO knowing what it is if you have to have things in some box.

It is a change.. It is an action.. it is a FEEL.. It is what the UNITED STATES is all about .. WE THE PEOPLE that have people in WASHINGTON listening to US, not going on their AGENDA. THEY SERVE US, they serve We The People.. And they have LOST their way.

They have become arrogant.. They have become unknowing and lost touch with WE THE PEOPLE.. They do not understand we will STOP the insanity as they have NO idea they are the INSANITY that has crawled in some little box.

They can not understand INDIVIDUALITY that has UNITED without becoming ANY one “Platform” set of “Rules” or “Agenda”. Just a voting FORCE that will take back the USA..

God Bless America.. Let us continue to be a diverse group that can UNITE when needed without being all the same in what group we belong to.. WE are WE THE PEOPLE with the spirit of the TEA PARTY.. Taking back America ONE VOTE AT A TIME.

We are making the change, we are turning the corner..

Yes, the feel better feeling..

Things are changing,

sluggish ideas are fleeing.

We are making the change..

We are turning a new corner..

We have been stuck to long..

We have been amazed at what is going on.

We have said OMG what is happening?

But NOW we are making the change.

We are waking up and taking the bull by the horns.

Money has been down, spending has been up..

Many have been made feel they need to cower like a whipped pup.

Made feel they need to watch their life evaporate.

Made feel they are less than a reprobate..

Made feel the only worthy are a group of select elite.

BUT, things are a changing, we are rounding the corner..

The peaceful majority are speaking,

The caring are voting.

The laws are changing while the violent vocal rage.

Common sense is once again taking control of our land.

Once again, We the People are getting the upper hand.

We are turning the corner .. things are changing..

It is our land..

It is our work, blood and tears that has made it great.

It is our money and the future of our children.

We have had enough, we have watched the mess.

We are standing up, we will do nothing less.

It has been a long bumpy scary ride, BUT ..

Thank God we are turning the corner.

We are making the change.. YES

We are turning the corner..

I want to take the time to tell everyone why Sean and I believe so strongly in Dan Maes. We have been following Dan’s campaign since the beginning of the year (2010). In this time we met with and talked to Dan and his staff many times. I was immediately impressed by Dan’s availability and his willingness to take the time to have a thoughtful discussion. I literally hounded him about when we could meet him and he traded multiple tweets with me to arrange for Sean and I to find an event near our rural home. When we finally met Dan his faith and strength of character became immediately evident. I still remember being floored by Dan’s yielding to God and his statement that if he was supposed to be the Governor than he just had to be faithful. At that moment Sean and I knew who we would support.

We were so impressed with Dan that we committed to represent him at our caucus where we were also voted in to be our area’s representatives to both local and state assemblies. In the months between caucus and assembly the media began to notice Dan and there were news items that concerned us so we would contact Dan and ask him to explain. On every occasion we received a direct and timely response directly from Dan. On one occasion Dan even took the step of calling us back when he lost the call while driving through the mountains on his way to/from and event. He has always engaged in thoughtful conversation with us and has always impressed us with his views and the reasons he holds those views.

At state assembly we were there to see Dan achieve victory. I have seen articles stating his victory was just because people don’t like McGinnis. The truth of the matter is that Dan took the time to meet one on one with anyone that desired to meet with him and he explained his positions to each individual and answered their questions. Keep in mind he did this in a private room one on one and not just in large meetings where you have to fight to get your question answered. This personal approach has been consistent with Dan and directly led to his victory at assembly. I will never forget how humble Dan was after the assembly victory and how he sincerely believes the victory is his supporters not his personal victory.

In addition to my own experiences I have heard so many others mention how real and involved Dan is with everyone. One great example of Dan’s humility is when he not only appeared in a Fourth of July parade but at the end he helped break down the float. Ultimately this is Dan’s most winning trait – he is regular person who desires to serve the others in his state. There is no stench of an elitist about Dan and God willing he will never take on that stench.

Sorry I was away so long but the computer has been making frequent stops at the repair shop and is still not right but I can get 15 minutes at a time out of it so I’m posting one of my Vietnam friend’s writings.

With all the vile protest signs.. With all the despicable acts.. With all the Stereotyping Rhetoric.. With all the unacceptable acting out.. With all the obvious actions seen by the SUPPOSED LIBERAL groups.. With all this we are seeing and NEW day .. A NEW way in the USA.. A fairly silent MAJORITY will again stand up to be seen and join together saying ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.. We see it happening in our neighborhoods.. in our towns.. in our cities and it might be happening near YOU.. It is the REAL people for change.. It is the ones who are progressive and who DO WANT A BETTER AMERICA.. Ones who say WE THE PEOPLE have to pay a lot as we go because we are BROKE.

As we see insanity going wild in Washington and with so many non realistic protesters running amuck we will see more movements like: Democrats allowed.. Republicans welcome.. Tea Party Members wanted.. Gun Toter’s requested.. We will see more states push for actions which seem to say: Democrats allowed.. Republicans welcome.. Tea Party Members wanted.. Gun Toter’s requested.. We will see more votes that indicate: Democrats allowed.. Republicans welcome.. Tea Party Members wanted.. Gun Toter’s requested..

NOW, I ask, do we keep this line drawn in the sand or do we as a people reason together?

Many of us have seen the day in the life of Joe that circulated the internet a few times. For those that have not find it here.

It has resurfaced and my Vietnam friend wrote a great version:

It is only intended to make all of us think, not to indicate a lack of thankfulness for this GREAT country of ours..

Joe knows he can make his coffee from his well water not having to worry about the destructive Fluoride of the city water.. He can feel comfort knowing his children will not have that brain enhanced absorption of aluminum along with the other life long side effects of Fluoride. Joe knows it was a previous insecticide and rat poison which gets him concerned what trouble it can can cause his family.. Perhaps refraining from partaking in many of the NOT so tried NOT so true shots or public additives could be some of the success his family has in not having a need to take the synthetic drugs and medication so many others seem to need to take..

Sure it has been costly getting in an area that is NOT so regulated by the blind money grabbing bleeding hearts that follow every whim of NEW and IMPROVED gotta make change NOW regulations… It is for the health of his family he has had to get away from as much regulation as possible. It has been worth giving up every penny in wages and ego trips he has adjusted to since leaving the city.. He discusses with other like-minded concerned people why many prefer to NOT put all these synthetics in a natural body. He feels it might be killing people at a huge health cost. It seems a few gain money of the huge sales of many products… Can’t people see to follow the money trail? Is this what is meant by some will believe a strong delusion and that they believe a lie? How can they be so deceived?

Can’t so many see the STRONG regulations that have been put on Doctors and all medical practices. Can’t people see regulations have made the cost go so high many can not afford insurance and many employers have had to drop their Insurance coverage for their people… In fact requirements put on employers is making wages and benefits go down or even making less jobs that can be afforded.. It is good Joe got out of the city where his family can live a bit more healthy and not need the insurance coverage that has been priced out of his and many others range long ago..

Joe finishes cooking the families bacon and eggs wondering how much genetic engineering has gone into the production of those products and how soon he should concern himself in finding a new source other than the NORMAL controlled stores to buy many products at.. He then thinks of all the money that changes hands with all the NEW laws that have enabled corrupt people to make money off the meat packing and food preparation industry. He realizes it has run the small farmer out of business because they can not afford to comply with the regulations. It has opened the door for huge companies who have so much money they can possibly pay an inspector to look the other way or even pay off a few large law suits and never feel they have lost a dime.. It is the cost of doing business. Yes that is the thing we hear so much anymore..OH wait, wasn’t that the cry of what many called the groups years ago that required protection money be paid to them? Can’t people just follow the money trail and see what is happening? Yep maybe time to get a few chickens…

Joe knows when he reaches for the shampoo or most anything there is very little reason to read the ingredients as they can use so many names of products to hide the true dangerous things included.. That will take time of research to find what all the names really are.. Thank God for some of the watch groups that are so hesitant of all the regulations and what they are hiding from us… Yes, many of them do a lot of the research helping the ones of us that do not want to follow along blindly without knowing what is being hidden.. Joe is so glad he has learned of many of the names that have Sodium lauryl sulfate, Propylene glycol or other dangerous ingredients in them.. He then wonders why all of that is legal with all the supposed safety regulations that have become laws.. Again he thinks how we have to follow the money and start understanding who owns what and who is making the money for others to look the other way…

When Joe finishes dressing and walks outside.. He is so thankful for all the years we progressed at a reasonable pace getting all the clean air acts in place giving time for business to comply instead of having to shut down as would have happened if all the protesters could have had their way wanting things to happen instantly.. Thank God for the responsible politicians we have had at times who care about the country and know the need to fix things slow enough small business can keep up as that is a must to keep the small independent from being taken over or ran out of business…

Joe looks out over the quiet countryside and thinks how he and many others voted in the negotiated taxes to help build mass transit systems with a many multi year plan that came at a cost reasonable to all while giving time for many business and people to relocate over a period of time instead of having their properties condemned throwing them out instantly… Even though he would be able to commute around the city well on those wonderful systems he is glad he no longer lives there…

Joe worries about the stress he knows is still killing the other small business persons he left behind in the city… He remembers the nights of tears and concern when he had to lay off a few more people because of the NEW regulations imposed on business wanting to demand benefits that business could not pay.. He remembers the additional regulations placed on business and the losses it has cost.. No one ever seemed to care many times the business owner never got a paid vacation, that they never got a paid holiday or sick day.. No one ever cared that the business owners did not even make minimum wage many times.. Many wanted to just demand Business pay more and pay it all.. He remembers back to the business that had to close because of regulations or unions coming in and there not being enough money left for the business to stay open.. He remembers all those out of work and the hunger and poverty they faced because the small business closed. Business owners were seldom ever given time trying to negotiate a fair change over a period of time, but a demand that made small business shut down and the big business to take over.. Yep, again time to follow the money trail and wonder what happened..

Joe remembers the days when compensation was at a reasonable rate the employer could afford to pay before the regulations made many plans so corrupt they milked the employer dry while then trying to deny all the claims they could to the worker by having taken any power from the employer to help their employees get a fair claim..

At noon Joe takes the minutes of his lunch hour as he runs to the bank finding it has a name change because one more bank has gone under since it was not one of the BIG mega bankers getting free bail out money or having the support of the huge conglomerate.. He then remembers back to the seventies when many of us WACKOS cried against letting the small banks be bought up by the big bankers and what a financial mess it would becomes some day.. While he is at the bank he transfers money to the individuals account to pay the house payment on a house loan he and the other individual had negotiated so they would not have to use any of the federal funds the banks try to sell..

Joe remembers the day when IQ was more important than some education paper that could say those with no common sense or care for humanity would rule with a dictatorial hand trying to cover up their insecure nature because they were afraid some hard working caring person would take their place.. They smirk when they think of how they may never pay their student loan back and how stupid it was of people like Joe who only took the few classes he could afford as he at the time thought he would NOT milk the government for payments. In fact at the time Joe did not want to feel he owed what he might not be able to pay back, but he is not sure now he would still refuse the money.. Joe is so glad that the Education Tax dollars he has voted for have finally been passed so more and more money was put into education for all the kids now days.. It is good to know some of what “We the People” vote on is not crushed or dictated over with unworkable bills..

Joe gets in his very safe car feeling so happy many of us were able to vote in a progressive safety standards set of laws that have been taking place over years making safety and economy a progressive thing to be proud of.. He wonders now why the drinking laws can not be passed making it illegal to drink anywhere it is illegal to smoke… He then decides most of the protesters might well be addicted to drink while they think it is cool… OH, but then he thinks of follow the money and wonders who makes the money off of liquor. Well, maybe soon they will allow drunk drivers to be charged with murder and instead of having DUI’s, maybe they will be charged with potential to kill with a deadly weapon.. Well, those are laws that we can start voting on soon maybe.. Why not add some good regulations on the books since we already have so many frivolous ones placed there by special interest groups..

Joe realizes how thankful he is for things like the REA, TVA, RUS, PMA, CCC, CAW, WPA and other programs which did help much of rural America as well as put many to work… He then thinks of all the co-ops still operating today to help areas of low population have some of the buying power of the city.. Joe still wonders why all the bail out money was not put into some type of WPA program instead of giving it to people at the top.. He then wonders why many of the houses he has wanted to buy are still in the one percent of homes where electrical power has never been taken into..

Joe thinks and wonders if there will be any Social Security left by the time he is able to use it… He thinks of all the dollars taken from the fund and wonders how the government will handle the $2.5 trillion in IOUs from the federal government payable to the Social Security Administration now that it is common knowledge they are held in the form of Treasury bonds that can not be denied. Well, it does not matter.. it will be there or it won’t.. Joe has worked hard all his life with NO one giving him vacation or holiday pay. He sure was not given any health care or retirement plan so he can work the rest of his life if he has to.. His Dad often said some of us pay our share while others take a lot of it because they want to get so much for nothing… Then he would add.. Someone has to work and pay taxes in this country to keep it great and free.

Joe then takes time with his family over a camp fire to enjoy nature and all this great country has to offer… The silence is wonderful broken at times when they hear the lapping of wave hitting the shore. Thank goodness some regulation has not kept them from gathering under brush to burn so they can help keep the forests cleaned up so some fire does not have so much to burn if some who are not knowledgeable lets a fire get out of hand..

As a family they bow their heads giving thanks for the food and the great country they live in.. Joe looks up at the stars saying: Remember kids, we must always keep our freedoms and fight against the huge amount of regulations some are trying to put on us..

Previously I had posted my early experiences with the Tea Parties. Since then the media has accelerated their negative campaign against the movement and against all “dissenters” of the direction of the government. What follows is my look back over the past year and a half of  Tea Parties and my personal awaking.

My experience with being called names began in 2003. That year I learned that admitting to being a conservative was a dangerous activity. I began to censor myself and to hide in my computer when my coworkers were denigrating all my beliefs. I often asked myself why I did not have the courage to stand up for my conservative values but I truly feared the response of those around me.

In 2008 I welcomed the 912 and Tea Party movements with open arms. For me, and many others, they were a support group. My first tea party I cried tears of joy when I discovered I was not alone. Many attendees had been like me, in hiding and denying conservative leanings, and many of us were counting heads just to assure ourselves we were not abnormal. As the weeks/months passed we moved from relief to a sense of purpose. After all if so many of us were afraid to come forward how many of our friends and neighbors were afraid? I came out of the conservative closet and began to talk. I found people excited to find they were not alone and my liberal friends and I were able to agree to disagree (often we were not so far apart on our beliefs).

My next step was to take a personal inventory. I have great friends that are black, Hispanic, gay and of many political and religious stripes. What made me ever believe that I was racist or bigoted? As for the charge of being stupid I always discounted that charge. Stupid is in the eye of the beholder and is not a word or concept we even allow to be brandished in our home. I have a college degree and am not far from having a second degree and I’m successful at my chosen career and no one that knows me has ever called me stupid – quite the reverse. Interestingly enough the same is true for the charges of racist and bigoted but it took a tea party for me to have the courage to stand against those allegations. Today I have arrived at the conclusion that am not wrong to hold my beliefs, after all I was  “endowed by my maker” with the right to believe what I believe be it religious or fiscal.

This is true hate ~    This is true horror ~     This is true bigotry ~     This is NOTis

BTW: this is an example of dangerous protesters

It truly distresses me that everyone is spending so much time calling each other names and not paying attention to the true issues that plague our nation.

Here is a great video about racism and the tea party.

Another post from my Vietnam Friend

NO, it is not a conspiracy.. Not a radically planed out thing or even for most a conscious thing.. It is just a natural happening thing.. even though it might be a spiritual thing depending how some think of the vibes of the universe..

We are broke, busted, outtta money and gottta cost cut.. Sorry, life happens.. There is a drain on society, on the money, on the benefits being paid.. Just cost cut and all will be better.. Sure some suffer, some are hurt, but that is what happens.. Many do not have health insurance while HUGE numbers get Medicare and Social Security… Nope, no need to target them, but why worry about protecting them much either… What value do they give to society? They might well be a drain keeping others from having many things because of the lack of money..

OK, it seems the Government money is going to Meda something and it is going to Social Security. They are people who do not work.. Gottta cut much of that out where possible while giving a lot of it to those of an age to work. Yep, why have the drain paying for the older group that is taking all the money.. OH yea, toss a few women in here also as some of the statistics seem to indicate they cost more medically than men to take care of..

OK, lets just cut back on procedures or tests allowed for certain age groups and classifications of people.. YEP, we gottta a plan.. OH sure some will expire.. That happens when you are outtta money and gottta make benefits for the productive class that has no health insurance..

OK, how do we get this to pass? YEP, the ole make them all think it is better for all .. that will work, we gottta a plan.. Lets call it health care reform.. WOW .. Lets take a vote on it TODAY.. Lets make sure it passes no matter what we have to do…

From time to time I will be posting writings sent to me from a Vietnam Veteran. This is one of his writings:
I saw the News on the TV.
People in countries are suffering immensely.
Many at the hand of those who inflict atrocity.
It is hard for me to watch and see.
BUT we can’t help, I’m sorry we can not go.

I know your people are being subjected to a lot of pain.
Some are forced out of homes and live in the heat or rain.
I know some will never take another breath.
Some are tortured and even put to death.
BUT, I am sorry we can not go.

We don’t want to loose people on your land.
Some don’t want to walk your jungles or your sand.
We have protesters at corners and on our sidewalks.
Many want us to accomplish things with peace talks.

I’m sorry we can’t go.
Take care of your people,  fix your own country,
We take care of our own as you see.
We aren’t concerned about our popularity.
We take care of ourselves and need nobody.
I’m sorry we can not go.

So you have some starving almost skin and bones.
We have our people to take care of in our own homes.
Nope, we sure can not go,
I am sure you already know.
I’m sorry we can not go.

Take care of your people.  It’s your mess, find a fix.
We don’t need to see all that stuff on the TV at six.
